Flavors of Coexistence is a pop-up dining initiative that uses gastrodiplomacy and food storytelling to bring ethnically and religiously diverse communities together for culture, dialogue and laughter. Our approach is playful and rooted in the idea that food opens our heart, and that community dining experiences can deepen cross-cultural appreciation.
Gastrodiplomacy is a type of cultural diplomacy, that believes that food has the power to deepen cross-cultural understanding and promote peace. An empathetic approach, gastrodiplomacy does not exert influence or power and rather invokes emotional connections.
Food is a powerful vehicle for storytelling. Whether at the individual or collective level, food storytelling allows people to connect to their own cultural traditions and stories, as well as the traditions and stories of others.
